Sausage Roll Recipe

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork sausage until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onions and garlic powder, and cook until the onions are translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the cheese is melted and well combined with the sausage mixture.
  5. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.

Step 2: Assemble the Sausage Rolls

  1. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  2. Spread the cooled sausage filling evenly across the center of the puff pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  3. Fold one long side of the puff pastry over the filling, then fold the other side over to completely enclose the filling.
  4. Press the edges firmly to seal the pastry.
  5. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the sealed pastry into 8–10 equal pieces.

Step 3: Bake the Sausage Rolls

  1. Place the sausage rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg to give them a shiny, golden appearance.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and flaky.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Remove the sausage rolls from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
  2. Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.

Tips:

  • Puff Pastry: You can use store-bought puff pastry for convenience, or make homemade puff pastry if you prefer.
  • Filling Variations: You can add other ingredients like diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach to the filling for extra flavor and texture.
  • Gluten-Free Option: For gluten-free sausage rolls, use gluten-free puff pastry and ensure all other ingredients are gluten-free.
  • Storage: Leftover sausage rolls can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
