👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Make the Dough:
- In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, lemon zest (if using), and cubed butter. Rub the butter into the dry ingredients until sandy and crumbly.
- Add egg, yolk, vanilla, and knead lightly to form a soft dough. Add sour cream if it’s too dry.
- Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.
2. Assemble the Tart:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll ⅔ of the dough and press into the bottom of a greased 9-inch tart pan or square pan.
- Spread jam evenly over the dough base.
- Roll remaining dough and cut into thin strips to create a lattice pattern on top.
3. Bake:
- Brush lattice with egg yolk if desired.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and set.
4. Cool and Serve:
- Let cool completely before slicing.
- Optional: Dust with powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
☕ Serving Tip:
Hungarian tart is even better the next day as the flavors meld together. Perfect with afternoon coffee or tea.
Would you like a version with ground walnuts or poppy seeds mixed into the dough?
