Glow-in-the-Dark Rain Cloud in a Jar

🧪 Instructions:

  1. Fill the Jar:
Pour water into the jar until it’s about ¾ full.
  2. Create the “Cloud”:
Add a fluffy layer of shaving cream on top of the water — this will be your rain cloud!
  3. Make the Glow Rain:
In a small bowl, mix a few drops of glow-in-the-dark paint (or highlighter ink if you cracked open a highlighter) with water and food coloring. Stir well.
  4. Drop the Rain:
Using a dropper or pipette, slowly drip the glowing mixture onto the shaving cream. Watch as it breaks through the “cloud” and rains down into the water below — it looks just like glowing rain falling from a cloud!
  5. Glow Time:
Turn off the lights and shine a flashlight or black light on the jar to activate the glow-in-the-dark effect.

💡 Safety Tips:

  • If using highlighter ink, supervise closely and wash hands after.
  • Use non-toxic glow paint labeled safe for crafts.

👩‍🔬 Science Connection:

The shaving cream acts like a cloud — when it gets too full of colored water, it can’t hold it anymore, so the “rain” falls! This demonstrates how real rain forms.
