Chicken Paprikash🇭🇺

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Sauté Onions:
Heat lard/oil in a large pot or deep skillet. Add onions and cook over medium heat until soft and golden.
  2. Add Paprika:
Remove from heat briefly, stir in paprika (this prevents burning and bitterness), then return to the heat.
  3. Add Chicken:
Add the chicken pieces and stir to coat with paprika and onion. Cook for a few minutes to brown slightly.
  4. Add Garlic & Veggies:
Stir in garlic, chopped tomato, pepper slices, caraway (if using), and broth. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Simmer:
Cover and simmer over low heat for about 45 minutes, or until the chicken is very tender.
  6. Finish with Sour Cream:
In a small bowl, whisk sour cream (and flour if using). Stir a bit of hot liquid into it to temper, then add back to the pot. Simmer gently (don’t boil) for 5 more minutes until creamy.

🍽️ Serve With:

  • Nokedli (Hungarian dumplings) – traditional!
  • Buttered egg noodles or even mashed potatoes
  • A sprinkle of fresh parsley or extra dollop of sour cream on top
