🍲 Lecsó – Hungarian Pepper Stew 🇭🇺


👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Sauté the Onions:

  • In a large pan, heat the lard/oil over medium heat.
  • Add sliced onions and cook until translucent and soft (5–7 minutes).

2. Add Paprika & Peppers:

  • Remove the pan from heat briefly, stir in paprika (to avoid burning), then add the sliced peppers.
  • Return to heat, stir, and cook for 5 minutes.

3. Add Tomatoes:

  • Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook until everything softens and combines into a thick stew (about 10–15 minutes).
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Optional Additions:

  • Add sausage slices to cook with the stew.
  • For egg version (tojásos lecsó), stir in beaten eggs at the end and cook just until set.
  • For a spicy version, add chili flakes or hot paprika.

🍽️ How to Serve:

  • On its own with fresh bread
  • Over rice or egg noodles
  • With scrambled eggs
  • Alongside grilled meats or fried potatoes
