🍯 Aranygaluska – Hungarian Golden Dumplings 🇭🇺✨


👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, egg yolks, and melted butter. Mix and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  3. Cover with a cloth and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.

2️⃣ Form & Coat the Dough Balls

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Punch down the dough and roll it out to about ½ inch thick.
  3. Cut out small rounds (about 1 inch wide) using a cookie cutter or glass.
  4. Dip each piece into melted butter, then roll in the walnut-sugar mixture.
  5. Arrange in a buttered baking dish, stacking slightly like monkey bread.

3️⃣ Bake

  1. Let the dough rest for 15 minutes before baking.
  2. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.

4️⃣ Make the Vanilla Custard (While Baking)

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan until warm.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla.
  3. Slowly pour the warm milk into the mixture, stirring constantly.
  4. Return to the stove and cook on low heat until thick and creamy.
